LIN-01RK Series — Open Slot Plastic Linear Bearing with Aluminum Housing

Open SlotLateral Shaft AccessAluminium HousingRetrofit Friendly

🆕 Series Overview

The LIN-01RK features an open slot running the full length of both the aluminium housing and LIN-01 membrane, allowing lateral installation onto the shaft without removing the shaft from its supports. Critical for retrofit installations and field maintenance on machinery where shaft disassembly is not possible.

The open slot reduces supported contact arc to approximately 270°. Load ratings are correspondingly lower than full-round LIN-01R. Orient the open slot away from the primary load direction to maximise effective contact. All dry-running properties are identical to LIN-01R.

⚙ Key Design Features

🔎

Open Slot for Lateral Access

Mounts laterally onto shaft without removing shaft end fittings — the defining advantage for retrofit and field-service.

📺

Complete Unit

Aluminium housing with LIN-01 membrane pre-fitted. Open slot runs full body length.

📈

270° Contact Arc

Open slot reduces supported arc — orient slot away from primary load to maximise load-bearing contact.

🔧

Dry Running

No lubrication. Maintenance-free. Replaceable membrane. Food-grade compatible.

🛣

Anodised Housing

Corrosion-resistant for wet and chemically aggressive environments.

✅

Field Replaceable

Replace bearing in situ without shaft removal — the key service benefit for installed machinery.

🔭 Materials & Performance Data

The LIN sliding membrane is a proprietary high-performance plastic with density 1.48 g/cm³ and kinetic friction coefficient 0.05–0.15 against steel (dry). Max PV value (dry) 0.4 N/mm²·m/s, continuous temperature −50°C to +90°C, short-term peak +120°C. Tensile strength 75 MPa (ISO 527), compressive strength 60 MPa, elastic modulus 2,400 MPa, Rockwell hardness HRR 107. The spiral groove pattern on the membrane bore expels contaminants axially rather than allowing accumulation — the key advantage over ball linear bearings in dusty environments. The aluminium housing is anodised for corrosion resistance.

📈

Max PV (Dry)

0.4 N/mm²·m/s. Kinetic friction 0.05–0.15 against steel without lubrication. Higher PV possible with lubrication.

🌡

Temperature Range

Continuous −50°C to +90°C. Short-term peak +120°C. Cold-start capable at −50°C without special preparation.

🔧

No Lubrication Required

Dry-running design suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and medical applications where lubricant contamination is prohibited.

🛣

Chemical Resistance

Resistant to alkaline detergents, dilute acids, mineral oils, and common industrial solvents. Washable with food-industry sanitisers.

🏭 Typical Applications

⚙

Retrofit Maintenance

Replacing worn linear bearings on operational machinery without shaft removal — reduces downtime from hours to minutes.

🔁

Split-Housing Assemblies

Machines with split housings that open laterally — LIN-01RK matches the split-housing maintenance philosophy.

📈

Continuous-Run Conveyors

Guide bearings on shafts that cannot be stopped long enough for shaft removal during replacement.

🔎

Prototype Machinery

Early-stage machines where bearing positions may need adjustment — open-slot bearings reposition along shaft without full disassembly.

LIN-01RK in application environment

🔧 Installation & Maintenance

🔎 Lateral Installation

Slide bearing laterally onto shaft with slot aligned. Once on shaft, rotate so slot faces low-load direction before securing housing.

🔧 Load Orientation

Open slot MUST face away from primary radial load. Incorrect orientation reduces life significantly.

📈 Load Check

Ratings lower than LIN-01R due to reduced contact arc. Use open-slot load values in table — do not use LIN-01R values.

✅ In-Situ Service

Slide bearing off shaft laterally, press out membrane, press in new LIN-01 membrane, replace. No shaft removal needed.

🔎 Selection Guide

Select LIN-01RK specifically for retrofit or field-service where shaft cannot be removed. If shaft can be removed, use LIN-01R for higher load rating.

①

Confirm Environment

Confirm shaft cannot be removed — this is the primary criterion for LIN-01RK.

②

Select Bore & Type

Match d1 bore to shaft. Verify d2h7 fits H7 bore. Plan open-slot orientation relative to primary load.

③

Verify Load & PV

Apply open-slot load ratings from table. Lower than LIN-01R — do not substitute closed-housing values.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What is the difference between LIN-01R and LIN-02R bearings?

LIN-01R uses the LIN-01 standard membrane for higher load capacity. LIN-02R uses the narrower LIN-02 membrane in a shorter housing body. Both use identical aluminium housings; the membrane type determines load rating and body length.

▶ Can the membrane be replaced without replacing the housing?

Yes — this is the key service advantage. When the membrane wears and shaft play develops, only the membrane is replaced. The aluminium housing is retained. This significantly reduces replacement cost and maintenance time compared with ball linear bearing units.

▶ What housing bore tolerance is required?

H7 tolerance. Press the bearing into a H7-tolerance bore. Do not use adhesive — the membrane must remain free to flex slightly under load, and the housing must be removable for membrane replacement.

▶ Are LIN bearings suitable for vertical shaft applications?

Yes. The dry-running design is unaffected by shaft orientation — no grease migration issue. In vertical applications, the spiral groove assists axial expulsion of particles that might otherwise accumulate at the lower end.

▶ What is the maximum operating speed?

Maximum linear velocity is 1.5 m/s for oscillating motion and 1.1 m/s for continuous linear travel (PV limit 0.4 N/mm²·m/s at P = 5 MPa). For higher speeds, reduce applied load to stay within the PV envelope. Contact GBC for applications above 1 m/s continuous.
