An insert ball bearing unit consists of a double-sealed, single-row deep groove ball bearing with a spherical (or cylindrical) outer ring, and a housing of cast iron, pressed steel plate, stainless steel, or engineering plastic. The spherical outside diameter of the bearing sits in a matching spherical seat in the housing, providing self-alignment of up to 2° to compensate for shaft misalignment and mounting distortion. A unique anti-rotation locking pin prevents the outer ring from rotating in the housing. Insert bearings are factory pre-lubricated and can be mounted directly on the shaft without special tools. UC series inserts are fully interchangeable across all UC-family housings: pillow block (UCP), 4-bolt flange (UCF), 2-bolt oval flange (UCFL), and take-up (UCT) for the same bore size.

Setscrew Locking Insert Bearings

Dual setscrews at 120° on the wide inner ring provide bidirectional shaft retention at standard operating speeds. The UC series is the most widely used insert type globally — fully interchangeable across all UC-family housings (UCP, UCF, UCFL, UCT, UCFA) for the same bore size. Medium-duty UCX inserts provide higher load ratings for UCPX00/UCFX00/UCTX00 housings. Compact SB, ER, and SER series serve specific housing formats and market standards.

Eccentric Collar Locking Insert Bearings

The eccentric collar tightens under unidirectional shaft rotation, providing a self-reinforcing grip that increases with belt load. More secure than setscrew under sustained vibration on unidirectional drives. NA series fits standard NAP/NAF/NAT pillow block, flange, and take-up housings. SA series fits compact SALF/SAFW/SAFD light-duty housings. CSA and NAA series use a cylindrical (non-spherical) OD for housings with cylindrical bearing seats. All eccentric collar inserts are for unidirectional drives only — the collar releases under shaft reversal.

Adapter Sleeve Locking Insert Bearings

The UK series tapered bore insert mounts via a separate H-series adapter sleeve that distributes clamping load over the full sleeve contact length. No shaft surface damage on installation or removal — suitable for rough-turned, as-machined, and reused shafts. The 1:12 taper is self-locking under operating loads. HS, HA, and HE sleeve variants cover different shaft diameter ranges within the same bearing bore. Fits UKP+H, UKF+H, and UKFL+H adapter sleeve housings.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Are UC insert bearings interchangeable across UCP, UCF, UCFL, and UCT housings?

Yes. The UC series wide inner ring insert bearing is dimensionally identical for equivalent bore sizes across all four housing formats: UCP200 pillow block, UCF200 4-bolt square flange, UCFL200 2-bolt oval flange, and UCT200 take-up unit. This means one UC insert type covers all standard-duty mounted bearing positions on the same machine, simplifying spare parts inventory. UCX inserts fit UCPX00/UCFX00/UCTX00 medium-duty housings only.

▶ What is the difference between setscrew (UC) and eccentric collar (NA) insert bearings?

UC series setscrews apply clamping force at two points (120° apart) on the shaft surface. The grip is fixed by the torque applied at installation and does not change under operating load. NA series eccentric collar tightens under unidirectional shaft rotation — the eccentric geometry creates a wedging force that increases with operating torque, providing progressively more secure retention under sustained belt load and vibration. NA series must not be used on reversing drives: the collar releases when the shaft rotates opposite to the lock direction.

▶ Why does the UK series use a tapered bore instead of a setscrew?

The UK series 1:12 tapered bore with H-series adapter sleeve distributes clamping load over the full sleeve contact length, leaving no marks on the shaft surface when removed. Setscrew retention concentrates load at two small contact points, creating fretting damage and indentations that progressively weaken the shaft surface with each retightening. UK adapter sleeve locking is the correct choice for rough-turned or as-machined shafts, for shafts that will be reused between bearing replacements, and for take-up positions where the bearing is released and re-locked repeatedly as belt tension is adjusted.

▶ What is the spherical outer ring for, and does it affect load capacity?

The spherical outer ring (standard on UC, NA, UK, HC series) has an outer diameter that is ground to a sphere to match a corresponding spherical seat inside the housing. This allows the bearing to self-align up to 2 degrees to compensate for shaft misalignment and mounting surface distortion. It does not reduce radial load capacity compared to a cylindrical OD bearing of equivalent bore — the load path is through the rolling elements and inner ring, not through the spherical OD seat.

▶ When should I choose CS-2RS cartridge bearing instead of UC series?

CS-2RS is a double rubber-sealed deep groove ball bearing in insert bearing form. The 2RS seals prevent lubricant escape and contamination ingress, making the unit maintenance-free for its rated service life in clean to moderately contaminated environments. Choose CS-2RS when re-lubrication access is impractical or when the application requires no grease fitting (sealed food-grade, pharmaceutical, or automation positions). UC series with a standard rubber seal can also be re-lubricated via the grease fitting for longer service life in heavily contaminated environments.

▶ What is the correct setscrew tightening torque for UC insert bearings?

Tightening torque depends on the setscrew size, which varies by bearing bore: UC204–UC206 (20–30 mm) M6×1, torque 3.9 N·m max; UC207–UC209 (35–45 mm) M8×1, torque 7.8 N·m max; UC210–UC212 (50–60 mm) M10×1.25, torque 16.6 N·m max; UC213–UC218 (65–90 mm) M12×1.5, torque 29.4 N·m max. Apply torque to both setscrews at 120° apart. Do not exceed maximum torque — overtightening can crack the inner ring set screw hole.
