Stamped steel bearing units use a two-piece pressed steel plate housing rather than a cast iron housing. The pressed steel construction gives a significantly lighter and more compact unit at the same bore size, at the cost of lower rigidity and load capacity compared to cast iron equivalents. They are the standard choice for light-duty, low-to-medium speed applications in agricultural equipment, textile machinery, packaging lines, and conveyor systems where the shaft is small (12–40 mm) and loads are modest.

Insert bearings are SA series (eccentric collar, compact) or SB series (setscrew, compact) — smaller and lighter than the UC series used in cast iron housings. The SB and SA series inserts are only compatible with pressed steel housings (SBPP, SAPP, SBPFL, SAPFL, SBPF, SAPF series) and the light-duty cast iron SBLF/SALF, SBFW/SAFW, SBFD/SAFD, and SBPFTD/SAPFTD series, not with UCP or UCF cast iron housings.

Stamped Steel vs Cast Iron — When to Use Which

▮ Stamped Steel (SBPP / SAPP)

  • Lighter weight — less dead load on the frame
  • Lower cost per unit
  • Bore 12–40 mm only
  • Low to medium speed
  • SA / SB inserts only
  • Agricultural, textile, packaging, light conveyor

■ Cast Iron (UCP / UCF series)

  • Higher rigidity and load capacity
  • Bore 12–140 mm (standard duty)
  • Full speed range
  • UC / NA / UE / UK inserts
  • Industrial gearbox, conveyor, agricultural machinery
  • Standard for medium-to-heavy duty positions

All Stamped Steel Bearing Unit Series

All four product groups use SA or SB compact inserts and pressed steel two-piece housings. SB prefix = setscrew locking. SA prefix = eccentric collar locking. FT suffix = square carriage bolt holes for one-sided installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What is the difference between stamped steel and cast iron bearing units?

Stamped steel bearing units (SBPP, SAPP, SBPFL, SAPFL, SBPF, SAPF and similar) use a two-piece pressed steel plate housing. They are lighter, more compact, and less expensive than cast iron equivalents at the same bore size. However, pressed steel housings have lower rigidity and load capacity, and are only available to 40 mm bore. Cast iron units (UCP200, UCF200, UCFL200) use a rigid one-piece housing with higher load ratings and a wider bore range (12–140 mm standard duty). Choose stamped steel for light-duty, low-to-medium speed positions in agricultural, textile, and packaging equipment where low cost and light weight are priorities. Choose cast iron for industrial drives where load capacity, rigidity, and bore range are more important.

▶ What inserts are used in stamped steel bearing units and are they interchangeable with UC inserts?

Stamped steel bearing units use SA series (eccentric collar) or SB series (setscrew) compact insert bearings. SA and SB inserts are smaller in outer diameter and width than UC series inserts at the same bore size — they are specifically designed for pressed steel housings and the light-duty cast iron SBLF/SALF, SBFW/SAFW, and SBFD/SAFD housings. SA and SB inserts are NOT interchangeable with UC inserts and cannot be fitted into UCP, UCF, or UCFL cast iron housings. Verify that the insert series (SA/SB vs UC/NA/UE) matches the housing series before ordering replacements.

▶ What does the FT suffix mean in SAPFT200 and SBPFT200?

The FT suffix indicates that the flange bolt holes are square (carriage bolt holes) rather than round clearance holes. Standard round holes require a bolt inserted from below with a nut tightened from above, or a bolt from above with a nut accessible from below. Square carriage bolt holes accept the square neck of a carriage bolt: the bolt is inserted from the front and the square neck locks in the hole when tightened, so only one spanner is needed on the nut at the back. This allows the housing to be bolted to a panel or frame from one side only, without access to the back of the mounting surface — common in sheet-metal frame structures and panel-mounted agricultural equipment.

▶ What is the difference between SBPF200 (setscrew) and SAPF200 (eccentric collar) 3-bolt flanges?

SBPF200 uses an SB series setscrew insert: dual setscrew locking, bidirectional, suitable for standard speed in both rotation directions. SAPF200 uses an SA series eccentric collar insert: self-tightening under unidirectional shaft rotation, providing more secure retention than setscrew under sustained vibration on single-direction drives. SAPF200 must not be used on reversing drives — the eccentric collar releases when the shaft rotates opposite to the lock direction. For reversing or jogging drives, use SBPF200 setscrew.

▶ Can stamped steel bearing units replace cast iron units in existing machines?

Only if the bore size (12–40 mm), bolt hole pattern, and shaft-to-housing centreline height are compatible between the pressed steel and cast iron unit being replaced. In many cases the pressed steel unit will be dimensionally smaller than the cast iron equivalent at the same bore, and the bolt hole positions may not match. Pressed steel units are also rated for lower loads — verify that the reduced load rating is acceptable for the application before substituting. Direct substitution is most reliable when replacing a stamped steel unit with another stamped steel unit of the same series designation.

▶ What is the MOQ for stamped steel bearing units?

Standard parts: quantity-based MOQ per model number. New-client samples: 1–5 pcs at sample price for first-time buyers. Multi-model orders: aggregate orders of USD 1,500 or more across models accepted. Retail (1–2 pcs): not accepted.
