The design and dimensions are identical — same bore, O.D., width, and locking mechanism. The difference is the material: standard inserts (UC, NA, UE, UK, SB, SA, SER) are produced from chrome bearing steel (GCr15 / 100Cr6). Corrosion resistant inserts (SUC, SNA, SUE, SUK, SSB, SSA, SSER) are produced from 440C equivalent grade stainless steel throughout — inner ring, outer ring, balls, cage, seals, and slinger. This makes corrosion resistant inserts directly interchangeable in the same housing for the same bore size, while providing significantly superior resistance to corrosion in food processing, washdown, marine, and chemical environments.
▶ Are corrosion resistant inserts compatible with standard (cast iron) housings?
Yes. Corrosion resistant inserts have the same spherical or cylindrical O.D. dimensions as the equivalent standard insert. SUC200 drops directly into any housing that accepts UC200 — UCP200 pillow blocks, UCF200 4-bolt flanges, UCFL200 2-bolt flanges, UCFC200 cartridge units, and all other UC200-format housings. The housing material does not need to change if the standard cast iron housing is acceptable for the environment. For full corrosion resistance at the bearing position, the housing should also be corrosion resistant (stainless steel or thermoplastic) — but the insert can be upgraded independently.
▶ What is the L3 suffix on SUC and SNA inserts?
L3 designates a triple lip seal instead of the standard single rubber contact seal. The triple lip seal has three contact lips that provide greater contamination exclusion for dusty, wet, or heavily contaminated environments. SUC-L3 and SNA-L3 are dimensionally identical to the standard SUC and SNA inserts and are directly interchangeable in the same housing. Specify L3 when the standard seal is not sufficient for the contamination level at the bearing position.
