🆕 Series Overview

The LIN-01K series adds a keyway slot (W dimension) to the outer surface of the standard LIN-01 membrane. A corresponding key or projection in the housing engages this slot to prevent the membrane from rotating during rotary or combined linear-rotary motion.

All bore dimensions, tolerances, material properties, and PV limits are identical to LIN-01. The keyway adds only the W dimension to the outer surface. LIN-01K is specified wherever the shaft rotates during or between linear strokes — screw-driven actuators, cam mechanisms, or any combined motion system.

External keyway engages housing key to prevent membrane rotation. Essential for combined linear-rotary or oscillating-rotary applications.

🔎

Same Load as LIN-01

All bore dimensions and load ratings identical to LIN-01 — keyway adds only outer geometry.

🔧

Spiral Groove Design

Same contamination-expulsion groove as LIN-01. Dry-running, maintenance-free, food-grade compatible.

🛣

Chemical Resistance

Identical material to LIN-01 — resists alkaline cleaners, mineral oils, and common industrial chemicals.

🌡

−50°C to +90°C

Same as LIN-01 standard series. Full industrial temperature range.

✅

Replaceable

Membrane replaced independently of housing. Housing keyway is permanent and accepts replacement LIN-01K membranes.

🔭 Materials & Performance Data

The LIN sliding membrane is a proprietary high-performance plastic with density 1.48 g/cm³ and kinetic friction coefficient 0.05–0.15 against steel (dry). Max PV value (dry) 0.4 N/mm²·m/s, continuous temperature −50°C to +90°C, short-term peak +120°C. Tensile strength 75 MPa (ISO 527), compressive strength 60 MPa, elastic modulus 2,400 MPa, Rockwell hardness HRR 107. The spiral groove pattern on the membrane bore expels contaminants axially rather than allowing accumulation — the key advantage over ball linear bearings in dusty environments. The aluminium housing is anodised for corrosion resistance.

📈

Max PV (Dry)

0.4 N/mm²·m/s. Kinetic friction 0.05–0.15 against steel without lubrication. Higher PV possible with lubrication.

🌡

Temperature Range

Continuous −50°C to +90°C. Short-term peak +120°C. Cold-start capable at −50°C without special preparation.

🔧

No Lubrication Required

Dry-running design suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and medical applications where lubricant contamination is prohibited.

🛣

Chemical Resistance

Resistant to alkaline detergents, dilute acids, mineral oils, and common industrial solvents. Washable with food-industry sanitisers.

🏭 Typical Applications

⚙

Combined Linear-Rotary Actuators

Screw-driven stages, cam mechanisms, and rotary-linear pick-and-place heads where the shaft both slides and rotates simultaneously.

🔁

Oscillating Rotary + Linear

Spring-return mechanisms where the shaft oscillates rotationally at the end of each linear stroke.

🔎

Anti-Ejection Linear

Applications where axial thrust loads risk expelling the membrane — keyway provides positive axial and rotational retention.

📈

Precision Adjusters

Micrometer and fine-adjustment mechanisms requiring combined linear and rotary guidance without backlash.

🔧 Installation & Maintenance

🔎 Housing Keyway

Machine matching keyway in housing bore. Key width tolerance ±0.05 mm for free-sliding fit without excessive play.

🔧 Shaft Specification

h6, Ra 0.8 µm. No hardness requirement. Identical to LIN-01.

🔁 Keyway Orientation

Orient keyway away from peak load direction — keyway interrupts contact area slightly on one side.

📈 Load Verification

Load ratings identical to LIN-01. PV = (F/A) × v ≤ 0.4 N/mm²·m/s.

🔎 Selection Guide

Select LIN-01K when shaft rotation or combined rotary-linear motion is present, or when axial thrust risks membrane ejection. Housing must be machined with matching keyway.

①

Confirm Environment

Confirm shaft rotation or combined motion is present — if purely linear, use LIN-01 without keyway complexity.

②

Select Bore & Type

Match d1 bore to shaft. Verify housing has machined keyway matching W dimension for selected bore.

③

Verify Load & PV

PV identical to LIN-01: PV = (F/A) × v ≤ 0.4 N/mm²·m/s. Load ratings are the same as LIN-01.

LIN series plastic linear bearings overview

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What is a LIN sliding membrane and how does it work?

A LIN sliding membrane is a cylindrical plastic sleeve with a spiral groove on its inner bore. It is pressed into a housing and the shaft slides through the membrane bore. The spiral groove expels dust and particles axially instead of letting them accumulate — unlike ball bearings where contamination causes jamming or shaft scoring.

▶ What are the advantages over ball linear bearings?

Plastic sliding bearings are maintenance-free, operate quietly without rolling noise, tolerate contamination better via the spiral groove, resist corrosion without special surface treatment, can be washed with alkaline cleaners, and are lighter and lower in cost per unit than equivalent ball bearings.

▶ What shaft hardness and tolerance is required?

Shaft ground to h6 tolerance. Unlike ball linear bearings, LIN plastic bearings do not require a hardened shaft — stainless steel, aluminium, and engineering plastic shafts are all acceptable. Surface roughness Ra 0.8 µm or better is recommended for optimal membrane wear life.

▶ Is lubrication required?

No. Dry-running design — this is the primary maintenance advantage. For very high PV values or elevated temperatures, a light film of silicone or food-grade grease can extend service life, but is not mandatory under normal duty.

▶ Can LIN bearings be used in food or pharmaceutical environments?

Yes. The LIN membrane material is approved for food-contact use and can be cleaned with alkaline sanitisers. The absence of grease eliminates lubricant contamination risk — making LIN the preferred choice for food processing, pharmaceutical dispensing, and medical equipment guidance.
