LMBS Series — Inch Standard Linear Bearing Sealed and Open Type
9 inch bore sizes · Standard and Open (OP) configurations · Imperial dimensions
🆕 Series Overview
The LMBS series provides recirculating linear ball bearings in inch (imperial) bore sizes from 1/4 inch to 2 inches, covering the full range of standard inch shaft diameters used in North American and legacy industrial equipment. All dimensions conform to inch standards, making LMBS the direct replacement for equivalent inch-bore linear ball bushings from other manufacturers.
Two housing-style variants are available: the standard type (without end seals, both ends open) for clean, lubricated environments; and the UUOP open-slot type which adds a lateral slot for lateral shaft insertion and end seals for contamination protection. Load ratings are expressed in Newtons consistent with ISO presentation to allow comparison with metric series.

⚙ Key Design Features
Full Inch Size Range
1/4 inch to 2 inch bore covers all standard imperial shaft diameters from light instrumentation to heavy industrial guidance.
Open Slot Option (OP/UUOP)
Lateral slot enables shaft insertion from the side without removing shaft end fittings — critical for retrofit installations on existing equipment.
GCr15 Chrome Steel
Through-hardened to HRC 58–64. Ball tracks precision-ground to Ra 0.2 µm for low friction and extended service life.
Sealed Option (UUOP)
End seals retain grease and exclude contamination. Suitable for general industrial environments with moderate particulate levels.
Imperial Interchangeability
Dimensions conform to inch standards for direct replacement in existing inch-dimensioned housings without re-machining.
Flexible Lubrication
Standard variants accept oil or grease lubrication. UUOP sealed variants retain factory grease charge for extended intervals.

🔭 Materials & Construction
LMBS bearings are manufactured from GCr15 chrome-bearing steel (AISI 52100), through-hardened to HRC 58–64. Ball tracks are precision-ground to Ra 0.2 µm. The glass-fibre-reinforced nylon (PA66-GF30) retainer maintains ball spacing. Where specified, NBR rubber end seals are rated for −20°C to +80°C. Factory lubricant is NLGI-2 lithium-complex grease. All bore and outer diameter dimensions are manufactured to inch tolerances compatible with standard inch-bore housing designs.
🏭 Typical Applications
North American Industrial Equipment
Direct replacement bearings for legacy machinery originally designed to inch standards, eliminating costly housing modifications that would be required when retrofitting metric bearings.
Automation & Robotics
Used in inch-shaft linear actuators and robot arm guide assemblies in facilities that standardise on imperial tooling and measurement systems.
Machine Tool Retrofit
LMBS OP variants allow bearing replacement on machine tools where the shaft cannot be removed from the housing — the open slot enables lateral assembly without disassembly.
Custom Machinery
Specified by machine builders designing equipment for North American markets where inch shafts and housings are the customer-preferred standard.

🔧 Installation & Maintenance
🔎 Inch Shaft Requirement
Shaft must be ground to the inch nominal diameter with h6/h7 equivalent tolerance. Hardness HRC 60+ and surface roughness Ra 0.4 µm or better are required for rated life.
🔧 Housing Bore
Bore to H7 equivalent tolerance for the inch outer diameter. Press the bearing using a tool that contacts the outer race end face only.
📈 Lubrication
Standard (no-seal) variants: apply light machine oil or NLGI-2 grease at assembly. UUOP sealed variants: factory-greased, re-lubricate every 500 km or 6 months.
⚙ Open Slot Orientation
For OP/UUOP variants, orient the open slot away from the primary load direction — the slot interrupts the ball circuit continuity on one side and that side should not carry the majority of the radial load.
🔎 Selection Guide
Confirm that the shaft nominal diameter is an inch size. Select the LMBS bore size that matches the shaft. If a UU sealed version is needed, note that LMBS UU is the standard type with seals; LMBS UUOP adds an open slot for lateral shaft access. Verify housing bore against the outer diameter D in the specification table.
①
Identify Application Type
Confirm the shaft is an inch nominal diameter. If metric, use the LMES series instead.
②
Select Bore & Model
Match bore to shaft nominal diameter (1/4 in to 2 in). Select standard or OP/UUOP based on housing design.
③
Verify Load & Life
Verify L10 = (C/P)³ × 50 km using load ratings in Newtons. For higher loads, select the next bore size up.
