🆕 Series Overview

The LM...LUU series extends the standard ISO linear ball bearing with a longer body that accommodates more simultaneous ball-to-shaft contacts. This raises dynamic load ratings from 323 N to 7,550 N and static ratings from 529 N to 20,000 N — substantially higher than the equivalent UU standard-length model for the same bore. Outer diameter and housing-bore dimensions are identical to the LM...UU, so housings are shared across both body lengths.

The extended body is the preferred specification wherever the guidance system must resist moment loads — for example, when the load application point is offset from the bearing centreline, or when a single bearing must support a cantilevered tooling plate. The longer body also improves stiffness against pitching and yawing moments in long-stroke applications. 13 bore sizes from 6 mm to 60 mm are available.

⚙ Key Design Features

📈

Higher Load Ratings

Extended body provides more simultaneous ball contacts, raising dynamic and static load ratings significantly versus equivalent UU bore size.

🔁

Moment Load Resistance

Longer contact length improves stiffness against pitching and yawing moments from offset loads and cantilevered tooling plates.

🔒

Dual Lip Seals

NBR seals on both end faces retain NLGI-2 grease and exclude contamination. Rated −20°C to +80°C continuous service.

🔭

GCr15 Chrome Steel

AISI 52100, HRC 58–64. Ball tracks Ra 0.2 µm. Larger internal volume holds a greater grease charge than UU variant.

⚙

ISO Housing Compatible

OD and housing-bore dimensions identical to LM...UU — same housing tooling accepts both standard and extended body lengths.

✅

13 Bore Sizes

6 mm to 60 mm covering all standard shaft diameters where extended-body guidance is required.

🔭 Materials & Construction

LM...LUU bearings use GCr15 chrome steel (AISI 52100), HRC 58–64. Construction is identical to LM...UU; the extended body simply adds more ball circuits. The larger internal volume retains a greater grease charge, marginally extending re-lubrication intervals. PA66-GF30 retainer. NBR dual lip seals. Factory NLGI-2 grease.

●

GCr15 Chrome Steel

AISI 52100 equivalent. Through-hardened HRC 58–64. Ball tracks precision-ground to Ra 0.2 µm for full-film lubrication at rated load.

🛠

PA66-GF30 Retainer

Glass-fibre-reinforced nylon cage. Maintains 360° ball spacing. Resistant to mineral oils, greases, and dilute acids across the service temperature range.

🔒

NBR Dual Lip Seals

Contact seals on both end faces. Retain grease and exclude dust, swarf, and splash. Operating range −20°C to +80°C with standard NLGI-2 grease.

🏭 Typical Applications

⚙

CNC Machining Centres

Precision positioning of spindle carriages and tool-change assemblies in vertical and horizontal machining centres demands low-friction guidance that maintains dimensional accuracy across millions of cycles.

📈

Packaging & Labelling Lines

High-speed case packers and label applicators cycle continuously at up to 600 strokes per minute, placing a premium on fatigue life and minimal maintenance intervals.

🔎

Packaging & Labelling Lines

High-cycle pick-and-place heads and label applicators use LM series bearings for smooth, repeatable shaft travel at up to 600 strokes per minute with minimal maintenance intervals.

🔭

Medical Device Stages

Syringe pump drives and diagnostic cartridge dispensers rely on consistent linear force transfer and contamination resistance to meet IEC 60601 reliability requirements.

🔧 Installation & Maintenance

🔎 Lubrication at Assembly

Apply a thin film of lithium-complex NLGI-2 grease to the shaft before insertion. This provides initial lubrication to the ball tracks during the first few strokes before the internal grease charge distributes fully.

🔧 Alignment Check

After installation, traverse the shaft manually through the full stroke. Resistance should be uniform. A stiff patch indicates shaft misalignment exceeding 0.03 mm/100 mm — correct the housing position before powering the drive.

📈 Retention Method

Use snap rings, end caps, or adhesive retention (Loctite 638) depending on housing design. Ensure the bearing cannot shift axially under dynamic loading; axial play causes fretting at the ball-race contact.

⚙ Re-lubrication Interval

Under typical duty (moderate load, ambient temperature, no contamination), re-lubricate every 500 km of travel or 6 months, whichever occurs first. Harsh environments or high temperatures shorten this interval significantly.

🔎 Selection Guide

①

Confirm Configuration

Select LUU when the standard UU load rating produces insufficient L10 life, or when moment loads are identified in the load analysis.

②

Select Bore & Verify Housing

Match bore to shaft nominal diameter. Verify housing counterbore depth accommodates the longer LUU body length L.

③

Calculate Load & Life

Calculate L10 = (C/P)³ × 50 km using LUU ratings. Target at least 2× safety margin over the maintenance interval.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What causes premature spalling of the ball tracks?

The three most common causes are: (1) inadequate lubrication leading to metal-to-metal contact; (2) a shaft hardness below HRC 58, which allows the balls to indent the shaft surface; and (3) operating beyond the dynamic load rating, which causes subsurface fatigue in the race material.

▶ Can the bearing operate in a wet or washdown environment?

The sealed UU variant provides moderate resistance to splash contamination, but is not rated for full immersion. For washdown environments, specify stainless-steel variants or apply a supplementary labyrinth seal at the housing. Avoid chlorinated cleaning agents, which cause stress-corrosion cracking in standard GCr15 steel.

▶ What is the difference between dynamic and static load ratings?

The dynamic load rating C is used to calculate fatigue life (L10) for bearings in continuous motion. The static load rating Co is the maximum permissible load on a stationary or very slowly moving bearing before permanent deformation of the ball tracks occurs. Always check Co for shock-load applications such as pneumatic actuators.

▶ How should I store bearings before installation?

Keep bearings in their original sealed packaging, stored horizontally in a clean, dry location at 10–25 °C. Avoid locations with vibration, as a stationary bearing can develop false brinelling (fretting wear at ball contact points) if subjected to sustained vibration.

▶ What internal clearance class does this bearing carry?

Standard bearings are supplied with normal radial clearance as defined in ISO 10285. The maximum eccentricity (runout between bore and OD) is as listed in the specification table above. Where tighter clearance is required, specify class C3 or contact GBC engineering.
