The UCAK200 series uses the AK housing profile — a design variant where the housing body is lower in centre height than the standard UCP200 for equivalent bore sizes. This reduced centreline-to-base distance (H0 dimension) directly addresses installations where the shaft must pass close to the mounting surface, where headroom above the mounting plane is limited by an adjacent component, or where the machine designer needs the shaft centreline at a specific height without using a large-bore unit as a workaround.

AK Housing Geometry — Where the Difference Matters

Comparing UCAK205 and UCP205 at 25 mm bore: the UCAK205 has H = 33.3 mm and H0 = 68 mm versus the UCP205 H = 36.5 mm and H0 = 71 mm. This 3 mm reduction in centreline height may appear minor in isolation, but in a multi-bearing shaft arrangement where all bearing mounting heights must be co-planar and the shaft centreline is constrained by adjacent gears, sprockets, or guards, a 3 mm difference per bearing can cascade into a significant misalignment problem if the wrong housing is specified.

The AK housing also uses a smaller bolt pattern (M12 bolts for the 30–50 mm bore range versus M14 for equivalent UCP200 sizes), which allows mounting in frame sections where M14 would require additional machining.

Specifying UCAK200 vs UCP200

The UCAK200 and UCP200 use the same insert bearing for equivalent bore sizes, so radial load capacity is essentially the same. The selection criterion is purely geometric: if the required shaft centreline height H0 matches the UCAK200 specification for the bore size, specify UCAK200. If H0 is unconstrained and weight saving is desired, UCP200 is the lighter option. If H0 needs to be even lower than UCAK200 provides, the SALP/SBLP200 light duty series offers a more compact housing at smaller bore sizes (12–35 mm), though at reduced load capacity.
