🆕 Series Overview

The LIN-02 series is an open-type plastic sliding membrane for LIN-02R aluminium housing linear bearings. Compared with LIN-01, the LIN-02 has a narrower width (b1), making it suitable for shorter housings where axial length is constrained. The open-slot configuration enables installation in split housings.

LIN-02 shares the same spiral groove design, dry-running capability, and PV limits as LIN-01. Load ratings are proportionally lower due to the shorter contact length — select LIN-01 where higher load capacity is required within the same bore size.

⚙ Key Design Features

🔁

Spiral Groove Expulsion

Same inclined groove design as LIN-01 — dust expelled axially to prevent contamination build-up at the shaft contact.

📈

Narrower Width

Shorter b1 than LIN-01 for same bore — suitable for space-constrained housings.

🔧

Open Slot

Open-slot construction enables lateral shaft installation in split housings and retrofit applications.

🛣

Food & Pharma Compatible

Identical material to LIN-01. Approved for food contact, washable with alkaline sanitisers.

🌡

−50°C to +90°C

Full operating range identical to LIN-01 series.

✅

Replaceable

Membrane replaced independently of housing, retaining aluminium housing for multiple service cycles.

🔭 Materials & Performance Data

The LIN sliding membrane is a proprietary high-performance plastic with density 1.48 g/cm³ and kinetic friction coefficient 0.05–0.15 against steel (dry). Max PV value (dry) 0.4 N/mm²·m/s, continuous temperature −50°C to +90°C, short-term peak +120°C. Tensile strength 75 MPa (ISO 527), compressive strength 60 MPa, elastic modulus 2,400 MPa, Rockwell hardness HRR 107. The spiral groove pattern on the membrane bore expels contaminants axially rather than allowing accumulation — the key advantage over ball linear bearings in dusty environments. The aluminium housing is anodised for corrosion resistance.

📈

Max PV (Dry)

0.4 N/mm²·m/s. Kinetic friction 0.05–0.15 against steel without lubrication. Higher PV possible with lubrication.

🌡

Temperature Range

Continuous −50°C to +90°C. Short-term peak +120°C. Cold-start capable at −50°C without special preparation.

🔧

No Lubrication Required

Dry-running design suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and medical applications where lubricant contamination is prohibited.

🛣

Chemical Resistance

Resistant to alkaline detergents, dilute acids, mineral oils, and common industrial solvents. Washable with food-industry sanitisers.

🏭 Typical Applications

🍽

Compact Packaging Lines

Short-stroke conveyors and labelling systems where housing length must be minimised without sacrificing dry-running capability.

⚙

Split Housing Assemblies

Applications requiring lateral shaft insertion — open-slot membrane installs without removing shaft end fittings.

💊

Compact Instrument Stages

Diagnostic and surgical instrument guides where LIN-01 length cannot fit within the instrument envelope.

🛣

Washdown Environments

Narrow open-slot drains wash water more effectively than LIN-01 in full-immersion washdown duty.

🔧 Installation & Maintenance

🔎 Housing Bore

H7 tolerance. Open slot must align with matching recess in housing to prevent membrane rotating.

🔧 Shaft Specification

h6, Ra 0.8 µm. No hardness requirement — identical to LIN-01.

🔁 Slot Orientation

Orient open slot away from primary load direction — slot interrupts contact area on one side.

📈 Load Check

Lower ratings than LIN-01 due to shorter contact. Verify PV ≤ 0.4 N/mm²·m/s and applied force against load table.

🔎 Selection Guide

Select LIN-02 when housing length is constrained and the reduced load capacity relative to LIN-01 is acceptable, or when a split-housing installation is required.

①

Confirm Environment

Confirm shorter body length or split-housing requirement — the primary reasons for selecting LIN-02 over LIN-01.

②

Select Bore & Type

Match d1 bore to shaft. Verify d2 fits housing H7 bore. Confirm b1 fits available housing depth.

③

Verify Load & PV

LIN-02 ratings are lower than LIN-01 for same bore — check load table. PV ≤ 0.4 N/mm²·m/s.

LIN series plastic linear bearings overview

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What is a LIN sliding membrane and how does it work?

A LIN sliding membrane is a cylindrical plastic sleeve with a spiral groove on its inner bore. It is pressed into a housing and the shaft slides through the membrane bore. The spiral groove expels dust and particles axially instead of letting them accumulate — unlike ball bearings where contamination causes jamming or shaft scoring.

▶ What are the advantages over ball linear bearings?

Plastic sliding bearings are maintenance-free, operate quietly without rolling noise, tolerate contamination better via the spiral groove, resist corrosion without special surface treatment, can be washed with alkaline cleaners, and are lighter and lower in cost per unit than equivalent ball bearings.

▶ What shaft hardness and tolerance is required?

Shaft ground to h6 tolerance. Unlike ball linear bearings, LIN plastic bearings do not require a hardened shaft — stainless steel, aluminium, and engineering plastic shafts are all acceptable. Surface roughness Ra 0.8 µm or better is recommended for optimal membrane wear life.

▶ Is lubrication required?

No. Dry-running design — this is the primary maintenance advantage. For very high PV values or elevated temperatures, a light film of silicone or food-grade grease can extend service life, but is not mandatory under normal duty.

▶ Can LIN bearings be used in food or pharmaceutical environments?

Yes. The LIN membrane material is approved for food-contact use and can be cleaned with alkaline sanitisers. The absence of grease eliminates lubricant contamination risk — making LIN the preferred choice for food processing, pharmaceutical dispensing, and medical equipment guidance.
