🆕 Series Overview

The LIN-01 series is a standard split-type plastic sliding membrane for use as the inner element in LIN-01R aluminium housing linear bearings. The membrane is pressed into the housing bore and the shaft passes through the membrane's precision bore, providing smooth dry-running linear motion without any lubrication.

The spiral groove pattern on the inner bore expels contaminants and dust axially rather than allowing accumulation. This makes LIN-01 far more tolerant of dirty environments than conventional ball linear bearings, where contamination causes rapid wear and shaft scoring.

⚙ Key Design Features

🔁

Spiral Groove Design

Inclined grooves on the inner bore expel dust axially, preventing contamination-induced jamming or shaft scoring.

📈

High Load via Surface Contact

Surface contact distributes load over a larger area than ball-point contact, giving higher static and dynamic ratings per bore size.

🔧

Maintenance-Free

No lubrication required for normal duty. Eliminates centralised lubrication systems.

🛣

Food & Pharma Compatible

Approved for food-contact use. Washable with alkaline sanitisers. No grease contamination risk.

🌡

−50°C to +90°C

Full temperature range. Suitable for cold-store and oven-adjacent applications.

✅

Replaceable Element

Membrane replaced independently of housing — significantly lower service cost than replacing a complete ball bearing unit.

🔭 Materials & Performance Data

The LIN sliding membrane is a proprietary high-performance plastic with density 1.48 g/cm³ and kinetic friction coefficient 0.05–0.15 against steel (dry). Max PV value (dry) 0.4 N/mm²·m/s, continuous temperature −50°C to +90°C, short-term peak +120°C. Tensile strength 75 MPa (ISO 527), compressive strength 60 MPa, elastic modulus 2,400 MPa, Rockwell hardness HRR 107. The spiral groove pattern on the membrane bore expels contaminants axially rather than allowing accumulation — the key advantage over ball linear bearings in dusty environments. The aluminium housing is anodised for corrosion resistance.

📈

Max PV (Dry)

0.4 N/mm²·m/s. Kinetic friction 0.05–0.15 against steel without lubrication. Higher PV possible with lubrication.

🌡

Temperature Range

Continuous −50°C to +90°C. Short-term peak +120°C. Cold-start capable at −50°C without special preparation.

🔧

No Lubrication Required

Dry-running design suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and medical applications where lubricant contamination is prohibited.

🛣

Chemical Resistance

Resistant to alkaline detergents, dilute acids, mineral oils, and common industrial solvents. Washable with food-industry sanitisers.

🏭 Typical Applications

🍽

Food Processing

Filling nozzles, portioning conveyors, and packaging lines where lubricant-free and wash-down resistance are mandatory.

💊

Medical Devices

Syringe pump drives, infusion carriages, and diagnostic stages requiring dry motion without contamination.

🛣

Textile Machinery

Rapier and gripper mechanisms in lint-contaminated environments where ball bearings would jam — spiral grooves expel fibres continuously.

⚙

General Automation

Any linear guidance in dusty, humid, or chemically aggressive environments where ball bearing maintenance intervals are too short.

🔧 Installation & Maintenance

🔎 Housing Bore

H7 tolerance. Press membrane in using press tool on end face only. Do not use adhesive.

🔧 Shaft Specification

Ground to h6, Ra 0.8 µm or better. No hardness requirement — stainless, aluminium, and plastic shafts all acceptable.

🌡 Break-in Period

New membranes have a break-in of ~50 km travel during which friction is slightly higher. Reduces automatically as bore conforms to shaft.

📈 Load & PV Check

Verify applied load P against maximum load table. Confirm PV = P × v ≤ 0.4 N/mm²·m/s at all operating speeds.

🔎 Selection Guide

Select the bore to match shaft nominal diameter. Verify d2 matches housing H7 bore. Confirm PV = (F/A) × v ≤ 0.4 N/mm²·m/s.

①

Confirm Environment

Confirm the application requires dry-running or food-grade capability that makes ball linear bearings unsuitable.

②

Select Bore & Type

Match d1 bore to shaft nominal diameter. Verify d2 fits housing H7 bore. Select b1 to suit housing depth.

③

Verify Load & PV

Calculate PV = (F/A) × v where A = π × d1 × b1. PV must not exceed 0.4 N/mm²·m/s dry.

LIN series plastic linear bearings overview

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What is a LIN sliding membrane and how does it work?

A LIN sliding membrane is a cylindrical plastic sleeve with a spiral groove on its inner bore. It is pressed into a housing and the shaft slides through the membrane bore. The spiral groove expels dust and particles axially instead of letting them accumulate — unlike ball bearings where contamination causes jamming or shaft scoring.

▶ What are the advantages over ball linear bearings?

Plastic sliding bearings are maintenance-free, operate quietly without rolling noise, tolerate contamination better via the spiral groove, resist corrosion without special surface treatment, can be washed with alkaline cleaners, and are lighter and lower in cost per unit than equivalent ball bearings.

▶ What shaft hardness and tolerance is required?

Shaft ground to h6 tolerance. Unlike ball linear bearings, LIN plastic bearings do not require a hardened shaft — stainless steel, aluminium, and engineering plastic shafts are all acceptable. Surface roughness Ra 0.8 µm or better is recommended for optimal membrane wear life.

▶ Is lubrication required?

No. Dry-running design — this is the primary maintenance advantage. For very high PV values or elevated temperatures, a light film of silicone or food-grade grease can extend service life, but is not mandatory under normal duty.

▶ Can LIN bearings be used in food or pharmaceutical environments?

Yes. The LIN membrane material is approved for food-contact use and can be cleaned with alkaline sanitisers. The absence of grease eliminates lubricant contamination risk — making LIN the preferred choice for food processing, pharmaceutical dispensing, and medical equipment guidance.
