Spherical Plain Bearings › Maintenance-Free Standard
GE..C Series — Maintenance-Free Spherical Plain Bearing PTFE Composite Lined
9 bore sizes · d 6–30 mm · Maintenance-free · PTFE composite liner · No re-lubrication
🆕 Series Overview
The GE..C series provides maintenance-free spherical plain bearings for bore sizes from 6 mm to 30 mm. The outer race is lined with a PTFE composite material that acts as a dry-running lubricant at the spherical sliding contact, eliminating the need for periodic re-lubrication. The outer ring is pressed around the inner ring (rather than having a split for assembly), giving a more compact profile.
The inner ring's spherical outer surface is chromium-plated to provide a hard, corrosion-resistant running surface compatible with the PTFE composite. These bearings are specified wherever re-lubrication access is impractical — sealed machine assemblies, food-grade equipment, clean-room environments, and applications where grease contamination is prohibited.

⚙ Key Design Features
Maintenance-Free
PTFE composite liner provides dry lubrication at the spherical contact surface. No re-lubrication required under normal operating conditions.
PTFE Composite Liner
Outer race lined with PTFE composite material. Combines low friction coefficient with load-bearing capacity for oscillating applications.
Chromium-Plated Inner Ring
Inner ring spherical surface chromium-plated for hardness and corrosion resistance. Compatible with PTFE composite liner without metallic wear.
Compact Design
Outer ring pressed around inner ring (no axial split) — smaller overall envelope than equivalent ES series for the same bore.
Food Grade Compatible
No grease contamination risk. Suitable for food processing, pharmaceutical, and medical equipment where lubricant-free operation is required.
Wide Temperature Range
PTFE liner rated −50°C to +200°C dry. Operational range limited by inner ring chromium plating and housing material, not the liner.

🔭 Materials & Construction
The outer ring is steel with the inner spherical bore lined with a PTFE composite (unwoven PTFE + filler matrix) bonded to the steel substrate. The inner ring's spherical outer surface is chromium-plated to HRC 58 minimum surface hardness. The outer ring is pressed around the inner ring during assembly — this construction eliminates the axial split of the GE..ES series and provides a more compact envelope.
PTFE Composite Liner
Bonded to outer ring spherical bore. Friction coefficient 0.03–0.10 (dry). No grease required. Rated to +200°C dry.
Chromium-Plated Inner Ring
HRC 58+ surface hardness. Corrosion-resistant. Compatible running surface with PTFE composite liner.
Pressed-Around Construction
Outer ring pressed around inner ring — no axial split. More compact envelope than ES series for equivalent bore.
🏭 Typical Applications
Medical Equipment
Surgical table adjustment mechanisms, diagnostic instrument positioning, and rehabilitation equipment joints where grease contamination is unacceptable.
Food Processing
Conveyor pivot joints, filling machine linkages, and portioning equipment bearings in food-contact zones where lubricant-free operation is mandatory.
Clean Room Automation
Semiconductor handling equipment and optical instrument linkages in clean-room environments where particulate grease would cause yield loss.
Sealed Assemblies
Maintenance-free bearings in hermetically sealed mechanisms, actuators, and instruments where re-lubrication access is physically impossible after assembly.
Aerospace Ground Equipment
Ground support equipment linkages and actuator joints where scheduled re-lubrication is difficult in field conditions.
Scientific Instruments
Telescope mount pivot joints, spectrometer sample stages, and precision measurement instrument linkages requiring consistent low-friction, clean operation.

🔧 Installation & Maintenance
🔎 Housing Bore
H7 for standard installation. The outer ring is pressed into the housing in the same way as GE..ES — use a press tool on the outer ring end face.
🔧 Shaft Tolerance
h6 for press fit; f7 for sliding fit. Do not use grease on the inner ring spherical surface — this degrades the PTFE composite liner.
📈 No Lubrication
Do not apply grease to the spherical contact surface. The PTFE liner IS the lubricant. Applying grease to the contact surface does not improve performance and may attract abrasive contamination.
⚙ Contamination Protection
Protect the bearing from abrasive particles. While the PTFE liner tolerates chemical contamination well, abrasive debris entering the spherical contact accelerates liner wear. Use sealed housings in contaminated environments.
🌡 Operating Temperature
Limit continuous operating temperature to +120°C for steel housings. The PTFE liner can withstand higher temperatures, but housing expansion at elevated temperatures may affect the outer ring fit.
✅ End-of-Life Indication
When detectable radial play develops in the bearing, the PTFE liner is worn and the bearing must be replaced. Unlike GE..ES, the liner cannot be replenished by re-lubrication.
🔎 Selection Guide
Select GE..C when re-lubrication access is impractical, when grease contamination is prohibited, or when a clean-room or food-grade operating environment requires lubricant-free operation. Confirm bore size and verify that the application is oscillating, not continuously rotating.
①
Identify Load Type
Confirm re-lubrication is impractical or grease is prohibited. If re-lubrication is feasible, GE..ES provides higher load ratings for the same bore.
②
Select Bore & Series
Match bore d to shaft nominal. Verify outer diameter D and width B. Note GE..C OD differs from GE..ES for the same bore.
③
Verify Misalignment Angle
Confirm oscillating motion only. Verify dynamic load rating C ≥ required equivalent load. Check α angle does not exceed rated misalignment.
