Frequently Asked Questions

▶ How do I choose between maintenance-free and maintenance-required rod ends?

Maintenance-free PTFE-lined rod ends (SI/SA T/K, NHS/NOS, GIR/GAR) are preferred for sealed systems, food-grade environments, and applications where re-lubrication access is impractical — they require no periodic greasing and operate cleanly. Maintenance-required rod ends (PHS/POS, SI/SA...ES) with bronze liner or GE..ES insert provide higher dynamic and static load ratings and greater shock load tolerance for equivalent bore sizes, at the cost of a regular lubrication schedule every 200–500 hours.

▶ What is the difference between female thread (SI/NHS/GIR) and male thread (SA/NOS/GAR) rod ends?

Female-thread rod ends have an internal thread on the rod body that accepts a male-threaded pin, shaft, or actuator end. Male-thread rod ends have an external thread that screws into a female-threaded clevis, yoke, or actuator body. The choice depends entirely on the mating hardware — there is no performance difference for equivalent bore and construction type.

▶ When should I select the GIR/GAR (spherical insert) series instead of SI/SA...T/K?

GIR/GAR series use a GE..C or GE..ET 2RS spherical plain bearing insert, which gives a larger misalignment angle and higher load ratings than the T/K pressed PTFE series for equivalent bores from 6 mm to 80 mm. Select GIR/GAR when the application requires large angular displacement, heavy loads, or contamination-sealed operation (GE..ET 2RS). Select SI/SA...T/K when a compact, lightweight, and lower-cost PTFE rod end for small-to-medium bores is sufficient.

▶ What does MOQ 100 mean and can I order mixed sizes?

MOQ 100 means the minimum order quantity is 100 pieces per individual part number (e.g., SI 12T/K is one part number, SI 16T/K is another). Mixed sizes within the same series count separately — each size must meet the 100-piece minimum. Contact us to discuss project quantities that span multiple series or sizes.

▶ Are left-hand thread versions available?

Yes. For all metric series (SI/SA, NHS/NOS, PHS/POS, SI/SA...ES, GIR/GAR, SQZ/SQ), add suffix L to the part number for left-hand thread (e.g., SI 18T/K L, SQZ 10RS L). Left-hand thread is used in opposing-thread turnbuckle and push-pull rod assemblies where clockwise rotation of the rod must simultaneously tighten one end and loosen the other. Confirm availability for your specific size when ordering.

▶ Can I use rod end bearings for continuous rotation applications?

No. All series listed — including PTFE-lined, bronze-lined, GE..ES insert, and ball joint types — are designed for oscillating, pivoting, and tilting motion. Continuous rotation generates heat at the sliding contact that exceeds the liner or ball joint PV limit and causes rapid wear. If your application requires continuous rotation, contact us to discuss alternative bearing configurations.

Ready to Order?

MOQ is 100 units per part number. Provide bore diameter, thread specification (size, pitch, hand), load case, and operating environment. All catalogue data is for reference — verify against current drawings before finalising design.
