Thermoplastic Housed Bearing Units

SUCP-type units use a stainless steel setscrew insert: dual setscrews at 120° lock the insert to the shaft. Bidirectional, standard speed, the most common choice for general food processing conveyor positions. SUEP-type units use a specially designed concentric collar insert that provides 360° uniform clamping with no eccentric mass. The concentric collar produces a more concentric lock on the shaft than setscrew, generates no imbalance force at any operating speed, and works bidirectionally without releasing under shaft reversal. SUEP is the correct choice for high-speed food processing drives, reversing drives, and positions where setscrew retention is marginal.

Cast iron corrodes in wet and chemical environments, making it unsuitable for food processing and pharmaceutical positions without a coating — and coatings eventually degrade. Stainless steel housings provide excellent corrosion resistance but at significantly higher cost. Thermoplastic housings offer inherent corrosion resistance to a wide range of acids, alkalis, and cleaning chemicals without coating, at lower weight and cost than stainless steel. Where all stainless construction (housing + insert both stainless) is required, GBC all stainless bearing units (SSUCPA, SSUCP-A etc.) are the appropriate alternative.

TB denotes a housing with inch-based (TB) tapped-base dimensions — the bolt-hole spacing, base plate dimensions, and pilot diameter follow inch-standard tapped-base pillow block specifications rather than metric dimensions. When an existing machine frame has inch-standard tapped-base boring and stud positions, TP-SUCTB or TP-SUETB drops in directly without re-machining. For new machine designs or metric frame machines, TP-SUCPA or TP-SUEPA (metric tapped base) is the standard choice.

Yes. Thermoplastic housings withstand repeated washdown with water, alkaline cleaners, and many acid-based cleaning chemicals without housing degradation or contamination. The food-grade grease and stainless steel insert mean the full bearing unit is compatible with food processing washdown procedures. For the most aggressive washdown conditions (steam, high-pressure, very high temperature), confirm the thermoplastic grade and temperature rating with our team before specifying. For very aggressive chemical environments, GBC all stainless steel bearing units may be more appropriate.

TP-SSBLF is a compact and lightweight 2-bolt flange unit with a reduced overall OD compared to the standard TP-SUCFL at the same bore size. It is used in positions where the available space on the mounting face or the clearance around the housing does not accommodate a standard oval flange OD. TP-SSBLF uses a setscrew stainless steel insert and is factory pre-greased with food-grade grease. Load ratings are lower than TP-SUCFL at the same bore due to the reduced housing size.
